Another different food.....

Another cool food item...TEMPE...have you heard of it? My student today in class taught us all about it (it's Indonesian)...it's like a log of soy..(usually wrapped in banana leaves)....very lengthy instructions (special yeast only found in Indonesia)..I'd never heard of it...she's coming over in July (temperature has to be hot enough) to make it...more details then! anyone ever made or tasted?

May book

This month for my Foster book group were reading Natsuko Kirino's "Out"...it's about a young mom in Tokyo who works the night shift making boxed lunches and strangles her dead-beat husband...More gritty details as I progress....but I am enjoying reading a "thriller" (not my usual choice)...the details and descriptions are great...."Mixed in with the exhaust fumes from the Shin-Oume Expressway, she could smell the faint odor of deep fried food, the odor of the boxed lunch factory where she was go… Continue

What I'm cooking

I'm all into Quinoa (pronounced keen-wah!)
Love it. Luckily, one of my lovely students, Maki, who loves organic food found me some.
Great with chick-peas, cucumbers, feta, splash of sea-salt and tomatoes. Even Sebastian eats it.

What I'm reading....

Just finished Art Speigelman's Maus and Maus 2 for the Foster book club. It's my first time reading a graphic novel. Hard getting used to reading about the Holocaust in a graphic form. I guess I associate "graphic" with the Sunday funnies....interesting and moving read....could really see it working well in the HS classroom.
