for those of you looking for classes, co-ops, PE, and fun days check out the yahoo group okinawahs we are offering classes starting in 2010. There is a handful of stuff that's posted and more coming once we hammer down the details...

Forgot to write that we are in chibana housing. Favorite group or site... I've read tons if hs books in the last 6 years. After the first 100 books it all mixs together! But, I do find personal blogs by hsing families, that have been homeschooling longer than us, to be very inspirational. Homeschooling at times can be daunting and lifeless. But I find it fasinating how they overcome burn outs, and overcome obsticles hs-ers with older children sometimes face. Also love hs-ers blogs that discussing organizing and book obsession! Which I suffer from! Why else would I have brought over 2,000 (yes thousand) kids books with us. That's not counting all our curriculum, supplemental, and teaching books! LOL! Now I think I'm done rambling!

Hi, I'm KC. My boys are 12, 11 and 7. I've been hsing since march 2003. We moved here (8/15/09) from Pensacola, fl. I've been a Marine Corps wife since 1996. Yeah, I'm old! LOL! We are very eclectic when it comes to teaching. All my boys have different learning styles. Which can lead to some amazing learning opportunities! What else... My boys are your typical boys, into sports and video games. Look forward to getting to know all of you!

Hello fellow homeschoolers! I have a 5-year-old boy and a 7-month-old. Does anyone know of an active homeschool group that has outings, park days, or activities suitable for kindergarteners? It seems like every thing is just for older kids. Any info would be great!

Kimberly,
Thanks for the pointers on swim team and POPS. (And sorry it took so long for me to post back to you.) I am looking into the swim team. Sounds good. Downfall -- it's only on Foster. But, I guess that's not too far, so I shouldn't really be complaining. And I'll have to look into POPS, that sound interesting. Thank you!

Charity, there aren't reaally any rules or requirements for homeschooling in Okinawa. Other things that came to mind reading your post... there is a swim team here called Okinawa Dolphins http://www.mccsokinawa.com/mccs.asp?id=13 ALSO an organization called POPS (Pacific Okiinawa Players) that does a lot of plays/musicals and often kids can participate. www.pops-okinawa.org/

I hope some of that helps!

charity I didnt know you were thinking of homeschooling maybe we could work some thing out and do classes for our kids together. It will be really easy since you live just accross the road.

1. My boys are 12 and 6 (almost 7) and my daughter is 9 almost ten. I have a step-son who is also 12, but he will only come for visitation.
2. Right now, everyone 'cause it's summer :-) I homeschooled for the last 6 months on my way here. Have been debating on whether I want to continue or put them in the base school
3. We live on Kadena in Sebille Manor
4. My husband is USAF
5. We are coming here from Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, Alabama.
6. My husband has been here for four months; my kids and I just got here on July 6th. We'll be here until summer of 2012.
7. I need more info - but field trips are for sure what I'd enjoy as a group! :-)
8. Eclectic
9. Yes, lots. I'm still undecided, but if I do decide to homeschool, where do I start? Do I have to have an umbrella school? Does anyone have any pointers on where to get info. or where to begin?
10. My children love writing and the arts. (Thaeater, drawing, etc.) And, they are swimmers and miss their swim team!
11. I'll have to dig it out to remember the name -- I'll add that later -- it's still in boxes :-)
12. Well, I haven't been looking at many lately. But the pioneer woman does have a homeschooling section on her website that occassionally has some interesting stuff and pointers. www.thepioneerwoman.com
