Ok ladies I need some advice my husband graduated on the 18th of June and was suppose to be flying out on the 29 to go to Okinawa, well the thing is that he cant because the Army forgot he had family and never gave him the paper work for us to do so that are medical clearance can be processed. All I did was send my kids med records to the base he is at as well as me recent one as I dont see a doc very often. I am taking a depression med but the doc gave it to me mainly to help speed my metabolism and loose weight(which it is so working). Anyhow we did our screening over the phone with a nurse from the hospital that is near the base where he is located and that was it, Nothing about our dental or anything. Now he is being held there till Japan lets us know. I am so confused because you ladies have all had really advanced med clearance packets when all I had was a few sheets and that faxing a few papers and a quick call by a nurse. I mean do the different branches do this different? Plz if anyone can help just to shed a little light on this for me I would so appreciate that. Also I am having massive trouble with the no fee passport thing, ugh!
I didn't have a big deal with my medical either. Just some papers filled out at the clinic and sent over. No dental check up. Dental here is fantastic and I even have a second bone graft the end of next month. No worries there.
My husband is Army/ ADA too. Who is your sponsor my dh probably knows him/her.
You don't really need the no fee. There is a post about this somewhere, but you can read up on it on the government website.
What do you mean by "he can't"? Did they change his orders? I stayed back until I received my travel message and then cleared myself and came over a month later. Sometimes that is just they way you have to do it.
All you and your kids should have to do is go to an EFMP, which basically is a nurse screens ya'll to make sure that youre okay to go overseas and she then signs off on your DA 5888. They then will send it to family travel and family travel will then send it on to Japan. It'll take a few days but you should be good to go once you get the okay from the folks on Okinawa. As for the passport go to www.travel.stat.gov and once there go to the forms section and pick the form DS11 then fill it out ,it'll take 4-6wks for the passports to come in. Im assuming that you arent near a base anywhere so I would have your husband ask for sure though about how exactly you should go about sending it in so you dont have to pay for it. To me it sounds like they may just need to amend his orders which doesnt take long....if anything you may just arrive later then what you had planned in the beginning. Hope this helps some
Well girls thank you for your help and I am taking wellbutrin. My hubby just told me the good news that the kids and I are approved and he gets to finally come home for leave on the 26 I am so Happy.
Thank you. :D I really only read about AF and USMC being an Army wife your question and everyone's answers have helped relieve some anxiety. I don't know about yours but my husband is also AD but we'll be getting there in late Dec or early Jan. Happy packing and Good Luck!
Your welcome, I was the same, I noticed not many wives are army here, or there isnt a lot of army here in general. My hubby is ADA. We are leaving in August. I am excited
That's very true. Not much Army but all the discussions are incredibly helpful. I'm so glad there are so many that contribute to this site. What would we do without it?
It is your first assignment right? :P If so... Welcome to the Army life and WELCOME to Air Defense!! What a way to christen your new lifestyle. Let's make it one of the hardest moves. OVERSEAS!! LOL. I'm excited too though. Japan! I thought we'd never get to go. It used to be ADA was restricted to Bliss, Germany, & Korea. They've got more to offer now. I hope our medical/dental clearance are accepted. We'll see. Good Luck to you. The military can be a struggle sometimes and lots of screws up can happen. There are a lot of positives despite all that. I hope everything goes well on your first assignment.
Your right there isn't much Army. We are here though and it is a pretty tight knit group. Your ADA girls are really cool. It is odd to be the smallest force here.
Check out ACS when you get here. They have amazing things going on for us. They have classes to help you figure out the Army if your new to it. I think they start in Sept. If you sign up I will see you in there!!
I am sure I will see you around Kelly, and Monica good luck with the rest of your paperwork.
