Okinawa Hai Society

Ok so we are planning to take a family venture up to Pineapple Park tomorrow and I dont think it is an all day kind of thing (please correct me if I am wrong but that is the impression I got). I was thinking if the baby was cooperative we might check out the Butterfly Garden up that way. Can anyone tell me how to get to it from the Pineapple Park? Does anyone think that we can do those 2 things in one day without a toddler meltdown?

Anyway the directions on Oki Hai are kind of vague and we are not familiar with the area so any info from you guys would be great!!

Thanks!

Hey Sarah! What's Butterfly Garden? Have you all been to Ryukyu Mura yet? I'm trying to plan a fam trip there for tomorrow but the site's in Japanese...I know there's a write up on Oki Hai but not on the day's schedule....

I think you could do both in one day with no problem. Pineapple park is def not an all day affair... we took my mom while she was here and we were there for maybe 1 1/2 hours. To get to butterfly garden go right out of the pineapple parking lot and continue up the 84. When you see signs for the 114, turn left onto it. This is also the way to the aquarium. Keep going on the 114 for maybe 5min? and you will see the butterfly garden on the left hand side. You can't miss it, it's very obvious that it is the butterfly garden! If you start seeing parking areas for the expo park then you've gone too far. Also, if you have anything red that is clothing I would bring it cause the butterflies are attracted to the red color. My girl was scared of them, lol so I had to hold the red cloth and she just watched ;) Have fun!

Right next to the Pineapple Park is Fruits Land Kingdom (the name is something along those lines). You might as well check that place out too - not an all day event either. In fact, I think it maybe even a shorter visit than the Pineapple Park.

But they have a mini butterfly zone (not too many butterflies though) and bird zone (where you can feed the birds), and even some goats to feed (but beware, they lean over the fence).

Cindy - LOL i just sent you an email saying have fun at Ryuku Mura and to tell me all about it b.c it is on my list of places to go. I have not been but it seems like a cool place..i hope you enjoy it! Butterfly Garden is something I read about I will send you the link...it is not a big place from what I heard you can do it in like 30 mins or so but there are an amazing amount of butterflies there. Truthfully I just figured since we were driving all the way up there we should do something else. I know the aquarium is right there but that is something I want to have a full day for. Anyway I will send you the link...

Tracey _ THANK YOU!!!! That is exactly what I was looking for. I am hoping the baby is in good spirits and we can do both places. Oh and I also hope she wont be scared of them! LOL!

Liza- thanks for the info...I think I just saw something in one of my many guide books about that place...I will keep an eye out for it. Thanks!!

This is the first time I've heard of Pineapple Park and Butterfly Garden! How nice. Are these free attractions??

They're not free, but pretty cheap! Pineapple park was like 500 yen and I think I remember the butterfly garden being around that amount too, maybe a little more or less, but still not pricey at all!

Sarah - another kid friendly spot up that way is Neo park, not sure if you've heard of that or not. If you're worried about meltdowns I prob wouldn't try to cram that into the mix this time around, but my kiddo loves going there also. It's another zoo type place, but the first part of it has like hundreds of birds just free roaming that you can feed. They have peacocks, flamingos, and some other types of birds with these long beaks that will just come right up to you looking for food (they don't hurt though). Can be a lil overwhelming for the little ones at first cause there are so many of them (and some where taller than my 3 year old, lol) but once she's comfortable she loves feeding them. I even have pics of her walking down the pathway with the bag of food and the birds following her like she was their leader. Oohh, they also have lemurs (i just call them the monkeys) that free roam as well. You can feed them and last time my daughter was petting the monkey while he was eating, lol. Too funny. They also have exotic bird exhibits and a petting zoo for a lil extra cost, it has dogs, bunnies, and big turtle, and some others. Anywho, sorry for the novel, just another idea for future trips maybe ;)

at Neo park
she liked the turtle
Monkey see, monkey do LOL

you want summa this?!

Hey if you & Cindy go then I will tag along...i couldnt interest the rest of the family in the idea of free roaming animals! LOL!! I dont know if Leah would LOVE them or be totally freaked out!! Tracey your daughter looks like she loves the place!!

After ALL the info I got from you ladies we ended up leaving after Pineapple Park b/c it was torrential pouring rain....it was horrible and we were soaked just getting to the car and ready to head home. Oh well now I know the way there and can plan some future trips. But wow I dont want to see any pineapple for a while...I stuffed myself silly!! So much yummy stuff there.

Haha...tired of pineapple, huh? Was it worth the trip though? Tracey has been a very good tour guide, you're more than welcome to join us on a trip...she should start charging for her services! I think you guys should plan and I'll join, since I'm open ALL of the next 2 weeks.

Cindy I sent Tracey an email and hopefully we CAN plan something for the next week or so! Oh and yes the pineapple was SO worth the trip. It was actually a good thing to do with the rainy weather since most of it is covered - but I did notice when the rain was so torrential as we were trying to leave that they had shut down the cart ride b/c even though you are covered in the cart it has to travel outdoors. Anyway it is a nice thing to do if the weather is iffy and it is SO DARN yummy!! I will send you some pics as soon as I get my daughter to upload them. Oh and yeah we spent about $80 on the food to take home...they really know how to suck you in! LOL!

neo park does sound like a fun time. I think Flip would be a little freaked out at first though. But if you all go, let me know and we may tag along as well. For now though, I think I'm a little bit zoo-ed out (we did have a good time today though).
