We are PCSing to Okinawa over the Christmas holidays. Just got a letter from housing stating that our application was received, but it will be an up to 12-month wait for housing, so we need to make other arrangements. Are they serious, or is this just the standard answer? Is there other arrangements than can be made, since I believe we have to live on base now? My husband is an 03 and he will be working at Hansen, so I've heard we will be at Courtney/McT but haven't seen that in writing anywhere. I'd really appreciate if anyone has any information or advice! Thanks.

Maybe that's just something they tell everyone now. I wouldn't worry. There are a ton of open houses everywhere still. They also will allow offbase moves if your command approves it. No worries. Good luck on your move here!:)
Ditto to what they said...the reason they are making everyone live ON base is b.c they have so many empty units so what would they be making you wait for? And if so then yes you would be eligible to live off base. DOnt stress too much about it for now.
You are correct...if your husband is stationed at Hansen you'll be offered housing at Courtney/McT. We live on McT and got here three months ago (when the policy was just going into affect), so had no wait time. I have heard that the multi-plexes on McT are pretty full for company grade, so don't be surprised if you only get offered a tower. However, the good thing is that there are still a lot of people moving out, so things are always opening up. Either way, I cannot imagine that you'd have much of a wait time because people are moving around. Do you rate a 3 or 4 bedroom? Because that also will affect your wait time. A 4-bedroom will likely have a much longer wait time. Best of luck on your move.
We had our housing brief on Friday (3 days after arrival on the island) and were offered housing on the same day!!! I actually wasn't ready for that one :) I wanted to be able to drive around and learn a bit more about the area. We already have to give them a decision by tomorrow.
We're in pretty much the exact same situation as you. We're still in the process of medical clearance though so we haven't submitted the housing application yet.
Is there anyway of contact the housing offices to see the wait times? I know here at Camp Lejuene they post it on the website, but I couldn't find anything for OKI. I'm stuck on if I should be hoping on-base housing is full since off-base sounds so much nicer, but the benefit of on-base are also are so appealing. I guess we will just see what we are dealt.
