Now that Aug 1st has come and gone, has anyone in processed housing? I just got off the phone with housing and they are throwing me in to a panic. I am an E-6 married, two kids with a small dog. Housing office just told me that we may not be offered a house or multi, possibly only tower living. And that we may have to give the dog away. Can anyone share how long their wait was and what they were offered? Does anyone have any insight on how much housing is available?

we went through housing this past monday. What they are saying is the same as what they told us. Luckily, there was a multi-plex available, but we were told that there is no requirement to provide housing where a pet can live. We have a dog and they offered us a tower--knowing that. We (of course) accepted the multi-plex. Not sure if others had the same experience, but that was ours...

oh...also forgot to add...we were made an offer on Monday--which we accepted, and we will move in on next Wed. But we are up north at Courtney. Different bases will have different wait times.

Susan W. thanks for posting this - I look forward to hearing what people say. This would be my worst nightmare to have to give up our family dogs...

My hubby was informed that there will be two towers that will be allow pets....one on Courtney and one on Kinser. Not sure when that will take effect but it will hopefully help out people coming here with pets. I am not a pet owner but i do really sympathize with those who are...how can they tell you just to get rid of them?

Mine was just told that the tower on Courtney is for Officers, but please don't quote us on that!

That's interesting. Dh is an officer and when we inquired about our dog (when they made us the offer for the towers), we were told that our dog could not live in the towers. Maybe they have gotten to the point where it is issue, because at least on Courtney, they had both multi-plex and tower units to offer?

He was told that a few days ago by an incoming Major; the housing office told him that if he had a pet, Courtney was the only base that was opening a tower up for Officers with pets.

No the pet towers are not going to be for officers only. I have sat in on these meetings and I know that for a fact. Plus there are way more enlisted families than officer and so I think they may have to separate rank by floors or it may be a if there is an available pet Apt. the family will have to take it regardless of rank.

so, if you have sat in on these meetings, what have they decided regarding pet towers? Which ones will it be? Is there going to be a size limit on the pets? Are they planning to convert a vacant tower, or move people around? When does all this go into effect?

I think they are still trying to figure out the logistics of even offering pet towers. I believe they said tower 868 on Kinser however...I am not sure...that may be the one they let the airmen use as a barracks. I only know they will offer people living in a designated pet tower the choice to move to a pet-free tower or multiplex and that the base will move people if they want to move. It should be in effect this month or next month. I recommend that people attend the town hall meetings on the various camps for ultimate clarification.

I didn't realise they were having open-to-the-public meetings. Do you know where I can get info about that?

Andree-I didn't say the pet tower was going to be for officers only. What he was told was that Courtney was the ONLY base that would have housing options for officers with pets.
